After her great pains to preserve good girl image, God went further still

Cradle My Heart Today | Jennifer’s Story 11-17-17

When Jennifer was fifteen years old she crossed the line with her high school boyfriend.

That choice put her at odds with the “good girl” image she’d worked so hard to attain.

So, pregnant at sixteen, she chose abortion to preserve the image of that “good girl.”

Jennifer says, “Not being willing or able to deal with the shame and pain of abortion created other wounds that plagued me for a long, long time: never feeling good enough, believing I didn’t have a voice, needing to prove my worth to feel valued.

“I even sought ministry leadership for the sake of being valued and affirmed by my peers.”

Jennifer found healing as God’s light broke through and she became willing to admit she needed help, and today she’s leading other women into the light of God’s love for them.

Jen’s extraordinary strength today rests in the maturity she’s found to rightly estimate her need for reliance on God.

Crafting an image may keep us from knowing our own hearts, making us vulnerable to betraying our values in choosing abortion to maintain that image. Instead, the more time we allow ourselves to reflect on the strength, beauty and power of Jesus in our lives, the more our image reflects his value and infinite worth.

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
