Loving church family empowered her to choose life

Cradle My Heart Today | Raquel’s story 9-6-17

Raquel says, “I’m that girl who chose life.” Listen now:

She had ushered in her 21st birthday with a night of drunken partying and hooking up.

Mortified to find out she was pregnant, she scheduled an abortion.

But she kept going to church, even though she hid out in the back row.

God broke through in a way that allowed her to feel his love, which gave her faith to then choose life.

She told focusoncampus.com that through prayers and the support of family and her community, she gave birth to AvaMarie in October, graduated cum laude with her Bachelor’s in December, and started working at a pregnancy center in February, while pursuing her Master’s in School Counseling.

Today Raquel shares her story not only to help encourage women in unplanned pregnancy, but to educate the church as to how to help as well.

There are Bible studies geared to single women who are pregnant, and many churches partner with pregnancy centers to offer support and care.

And each of us can help provide a sense of refuge; the church can be a welcoming presence to that frightened young woman hiding out on the back row.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
