Abortion the low point that started my journey to faith

Cradle My Heart Today | Kim’s story 8-21-17

Have you ever felt so broken that you couldn’t even pray? Watch now:

As I lay in bed a few hours after undergoing an abortion, I tried to fold my hands, but I didn’t even know what to say.

I knew my relationship with the father of my child was over.

Overwhelmed by pain and sadness, I finally drifted off to sleep.

Common sense would say reaching the lowest point in your life is a terrible place to initiate a relationship with holy and almighty God. Yet brokenness is where his saints are born.

God used my simple gesture of prayer as the starting point of changing me from the inside out.

His grace makes us righteous so that we can help others to be reconciled to God as we have been.

Again, common sense says we should keep quiet about the worst mistake of our lives, but Scripture tells us that revealing that weakness leads to spiritual power as we overcome the shame and pain of the past.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Sharing our stories leads to healing. Those events and emotions lose their power to define us in light of our fatal mistakes.

Consider sharing your story with someone you can trust today, first pouring out your heart to the One who’s promised to perfect your weakness and need. Then give good thought and deliberation as to when and how to share with others (guidelines here, here, and here).
