Dan Becker returns with an update on the work of Personhood Alliance in Nigeria following the release of Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014. He’ll share details of his recently completed trip to Abuja to meet with an unprecedented team of government officials and Nigerian churches working together across denominational lines.

The challenge: protecting those girls whose families reject them and their pregnancies or children after sexual enslavement or forced marriage during their captivity. The larger conflict amounts to genocide of Christians by Boko Haram, which is more deadly than ISIS, according to The Institute for Economics and Peace as reported by the New York Times.

The answer: establish Houses of Refuge to specifically address the needs of pregnancy and motherhood.

The why: standing on the timeless principle from God’s word that says it is wrong and unjust to punish children for offenses of their fathers. And more than that, standing on faith that believes every life is equally valuable as made in the image of God, regardless of the circumstances of conception.
