Keeping faith after abortion and abuse

Cradle My Heart Today | Dawn’s story 6-14-17

Dawn faced abuse no little girl should ever know. Listen now:

She says, “One night I went to bed as an innocent little girl, but woke up with tons of shame feeling frightened, abandoned and all alone.”

As a result she developed early and grew dependent on approval and attention from men.

Yet her grounding in the truth of her childhood faith in Jesus Christ never left her, despite an abortion chosen to cover her poor choices.

Dawn knew she was never out of the grip of God’s grace.

With the support of friends in faith she has recovered from the abuse and abortion and now leads other women in healing the roots of trauma.

When Christian women choose abortion, they often suffer deep self-recrimination because they feel they “should have known better.”

Yet, Dawn’s clinging to faith is a much healthier response.

The truth is Christians may remain subject to sin. While we need to own up to our wrongs, we then need to turn to God and not turn away in fear of punishment.

While choosing abortion is a moral failing because it takes an innocent life, it’s our faith that pleases God, not perfect performance.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 1 John 2:1
