Cradle My Heart Radio welcomes 40 Days for Life Founder David Bereit on October 20
[UPDATE: 10-21-13 podcast posted–also featuring Revs. Brian and Denise Walker of Everlasting Light Ministries]
One of the greatest barriers to overcoming Big Abortion is the fact that it’s so big. Their influence in the political arena (see here and here and here) and support for them by President Obama and in mainstream media and can be very discouraging to us as individuals wondering, “What can I possibly do?”
When David Bereit answered that question with personal action a worldwide movement took flight.
He started the 40 Days for Life prayer outreach as an effort to mobilize his community to stand together in prayer as an answer to Planned Parenthood’s establishing an abortion business in his town of College Station, Texas. What began as a local organization of church and community leaders has now expanded to all 50 states and 19 foreign countries. The mission of the campaign is:
. . . to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused 40 day campaign of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism, with the purpose of repentance, to seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.
That facility eventually opened, however, this year the giant was toppled. In August, LifeNews.com ran this unattributed photo documenting Planned Parenthood’s College Station demise (I believe the photo was taken by former PP Director Abby Johnson who tweeted the photo here.)
I don’t think it’s overstating the impact of David Bereit’s faith to say that his campaign has struck some decisive blows against the giant of Big Abortion. According to the 40 Days website, the overall results are impressive even beyond the emblematic blow struck in Texas:
- 2,480 individual campaigns have taken place in 501 cities involving 575,000 participants and 16,000 churches
- Documented cases include 7,536 lives have been spared from abortion–there may be many more
- 39 abortion facilities have shut down following local 40 Days for Life campaigns and 83 abortion workers have left the industry
- Many people with past abortion experiences have stepped forward to begin post-abortion healing and recovery
Join us for David’s inspiring story and to hear ways that you can have an impact in your community to bring about a culture of life.
