Cradle My Heart Today | Vicky’s story 6-30-17
Vicky did not want an abortion, but her boyfriend was adamant—he would not support her or the child. Listen now:
And during the abortion she was shocked to learn she was carrying twins.
“When they told me I thought, ‘If he doesn’t want one child . . .’”
Later, she said what hurt the most was not having time to even choose to abort that second child. This made her grief and guilt doubly hard to bear.
If you’ve had more than one abortion you may feel you need a double measure of grace.
According to guttmacher.org repeat procedures account for half of all abortions each year— millions of women have had more than one. But no matter what your situation, the healing mercy of Jesus is measureless.
Abortion is not the unforgivable sin.
Jesus has paid the price in full.
The truth is that many of us were operating in ignorance when we went through with that abortion. While Vicky lacked the knowledge that she was carrying twins, very few us had the knowledge that abortion can lead to guilt and complicated grief which may take concentrated effort and faith to finally resolve. Few of us knew we would carry the pain of unrequited parental love which may accompany any pregnancy loss.
Jesus prayed for those who crucified him in their ignorance.
He prays for us in ours.
Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25 ESV
Praying with others in a post-abortion Bible study can be a good first step to healing that painful past.
