Cradle My Heart Today | Marilyn’s story 5-12-17
Abortion left Marilyn languishing without love. Listen now:
But God broke through to help her admit her hopeless attitude and to face the state of her own heart.
After we choose abortion, or if we fail to forgive those who chose it for us, like Marilyn, we may develop a second problem. Our hearts become mired in a pool of self-pity, blame, betrayal and worse. Believing we are helpless and hopeless leads to feeling abandoned and isolated in self-hatred and regret.
Yet Jesus asks if we desire to live a different way.
He comes to free us from resentment, broken promises and all the pain of the past.
As Marilyn says today, “A willing heart is a healing heart.”
Just as in Susie’s story earlier this week, Marilyn’s emotions signalled a spiritual problem. When we find ourselves overwhelmed emotionally it may be easy to overlook the spiritual needs which drive our pain and confusion. We all need love, protection, a sense of meaning, and we all need to believe in something greater than ourselves.
Only in Christ can our deepest needs be met, healing our emotional turmoil. Desiring the deeper spiritual journey is the first step.
Jesus said, ““If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
