Keeping faith after abortion

Cradle My Heart Today | Sheila’s story 3-28-17

Sheila Harper suffered the childhood trauma of a deadly car accident which took her mother’s life at age 4.

Eventually she found safe haven with relatives, and even came to faith in Jesus Christ at age 12.

But when she left for college poor choices led to pregnancy and abortion at 19.

For Sheila the downward spiral afterwards included drug abuse, credit card abuse, and inappropriate relationships.

Yet through it all, God’s love carried her.

Marriage and motherhood brought Sheila full circle. Her second son was born on the same date as that abortion years earlier.

She says, “God speaks often, heals much, and redirects life’s circumstances, through children and pregnancies.”

Sheila now leads an international outreach to help women and men hurt by abortion.

Many women who were Christian when they chose abortion suffer unduly, feeling they should have known better.

Yet condemnation from self or others only serves to weaken faith. Standing firm means keeping faith in the face of our own sins and shortcomings.

As we repent and accept accountability for our decisions, keeping faith after abortion means believing the truth of God’s forgiving love.

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love. 1 Cor. 16:13 NKJV
