Janai’s story – Graduating to motherhood 2-28-17

Just a year ago, Janai’s world felt like it was coming to an end. After surviving date rape, she went from pursuing a promising education, to pregnancy and the prospect of being homeless.

Janai told Pregnancy Help News, “I felt like a stereotype, that everything was wrong. Young, pregnant, not married. I didn’t want that. It was hard.”

Janai sought help from a Houston pregnancy center.

She says hearing the heartbeat in the ultrasound changed her life, “It wasn’t just any heartbeat, it was a heartbeat that my body created.”

The center connected her to a maternity home where she lived there until she gave birth to baby “Marz” in November. She then walked with her degree in marketing in late December, marking the end of an eventful year for both mother and child.

A young woman today who withstands the pressures of pregnancy following date rape is as isolated as the widow in biblical times–and the children are largely fatherless too. God says it’s only right to help them find a home, to offer them both love and support: Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27)
