You may have heard that women who are incarcerated need abortion because they can’t or simply don’t wish to parent. But did you know that NFL great Daunte Culpepper was born to an unmarried teenager in jail for armed robbery?
According to adoption.com she gave him to one of the housemothers of the jail, a widow of 62 who had already raised 14 foster children, when he was a day old.
After his birthmother was released from jail five years later she claimed Daunte back, but he was so unhappy that she returned him to Mrs. Culpepper, whose name he later took.
His birthmom is now a social worker, with five other kids, and they have always been in contact. Birthmothers always sacrifice to give their child a better life. She gave twice.
And Miss Emma–raising a teen in her 80’s! When she passed at age 92 Daunte said, “Without her I don’t know where I would be. She was an angel.”
We may not have come to our forever family through adoption, but the truth is we all need spiritual adoption, and yearn for God’s perfect love.
Romans 8:23 “And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.”
