In the ensuing years the campaign has grown by showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It draws attention to abortion through prayer and fasting, constant vigil, and community outreach.

He’ll share with us the stories of those who gathered for prayer in all 50 states–in 127 cities. New this year, a bus tour took volunteers and leaders to all the states in the continental US. The United Tour gave those who prayed the chance to sign the bus, and you’ll hear highlights of their stories on Cradle My Heart Radio this weekend.

This campaign gives the average person something tangible to do to stand for life right where we live. Many of us may never march on Washington DC, but the reality is abortion is also happening in our neighborhoods. Prayer presence touches hearts and is saving lives. And whether or not you and I can go and join a vigil, each of us can pray.

40 Days for Life also provides a compilation of prayer guidance and devotionals from leading prolife voices.

From the 40 Days for Life website:

Steve Karlen, Director, North American Campaigns Steve travels to cities in the United States and Canada to support local 40 Days for Life efforts. He previously led local 40 Days for Life campaigns in Madison, Wisconsin. In 2009 and 2010, he helped lead a volunteer effort that was organized to prevent the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics from opening up a late-term abortion center near the campus in Madison. After a grueling 16 month campaign, the university health system cancelled its abortion plans, later citing the work of Steve and his team as the reason for making that decision.

The 40-day campaign tracks Biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities … and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ’s resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge.
