When God impressed on my heart the need to share my story of freedom from the pain of abortion, at first I wondered about how many women would need to hear that message. My denial was so strong that I avoided knowing anything that would have put my experience in context as a common choice–abortion happens at the rate of thousands per day–over one million a year.
As I began to learn about the scope of the issue and encountered women willing to share the truth with me, I was often surprised. Somehow we have an image of perfection in the past, or we assume that people have always existed at the same level of spiritual wisdom and maturity on display in their lives at a given moment in time.
But there is no stereotype. Abortion is an equal opportunity destroyer of our hope.
Yet with God’s help, we can all begin again. We can all be made new.
Today Tricia Goyer is a successful author, speaker and busy mom of six. Like me, she has made it her purpose to help others put the problem of abortion in context. She wants you to know that you are not alone, and you don’t need to keep the past locked away in shame. Tricia is transparent about her struggles with abortion as a teen who got pregnant twice before she turned eighteen. You can read her story written for Focus on the Family’s Thriving Family. It’s a story of hope, filled with laughter and kind direction for others who may have also lost their way.
Tricia’s many talents include inspiring women in our spiritual journey through her teaching and speaking, as well as through her fictional stories of faith.
I know you’ll enjoy meeting Tricia as much as I have.
